The HSDM Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging looks forward to celebrating Dr. Grant and his legacy with all of you. Please join HSDM for this momentous event.

Please join HSDM on June 1st, for a formal portrait unveiling ceremony in honor of George Franklin Grant, DMD, 1870. Dr. Grant holds the distinction of being the second Black graduate of the School of Dental Medicine, and the first Black faculty member at Harvard University. He was known as an innovator in the treatment of patients afflicted with cleft palate and developed some of the first prosthetic devices to improve patient’s ability to eat and speak. Dr. Grant was also the inventor of the golf tee and received a U.S. patent for the device.
