2021 Equity, Social Justice, and Advocacy (ESJA) Award Committee

The charge of the Valuing Advocacy, Equity and Social Justice Committee is to provide advice on the creation of a new Harvard Medical School (HMS) award that recognizes individuals within HMS (and the HMS-affiliate community) for their contributions to advancing equity, social justice, and advocacy.

The Committee examines how these contributions:

1) support and re-affirm the HMS mission and community values,

2) address disparities in health and health outcomes,

3) tackle issues of racism, discrimination and bias, and

4) engage stakeholders who represent different system levels - individual, departmental, institutional, local, regional and national. 

Fundamental to this work is identifying what represents and constitutes excellence, potential for impact across areas and formulating selection criteria for the proposed award. The work of this Committee occurred between October 2020 – January 2021.
