Dr. Cooper, MD, MSc, FACS, is a Professor at Harvard Medical School and an acute care surgeon, trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she serves as Interim Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery, Kessler Director for the Center for Surgery and Public Health, Founding Director of the Center for Geriatric Surgery, and holds the Michele and Howard J. Kessler Endowed Chair in Surgery and Public Health. Cooper is an internationally recognized health services researcher and clinical innovator with a focus on using principles of geriatric medicine and palliative care to improve surgical outcomes and experience for patients and their families. In 2021, Cooper received the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization Pillar Award for Diversity and Inclusion and the Richard E. Wilson Award in recognition of her excellence in surgical residence education. She has published over 170 peer-reviewed manuscripts and lectures internationally on topics related to geriatric trauma, palliative care, and equity in surgery.
