Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee serves as the primary HMS body responsible for monitoring diversity- and inclusion-related activities within the HMS community. It advises leadership on diversity, inclusion and belonging policy, practice, and programming, including identifying and revising diversity groups for focused recruitment and retention strategies.  The Committee is charged with recommending initiatives that facilitate an environment conducive to diversity, inclusion, and belonging; reviewing metrics of accountability and quality improvement outcomes; and recommending mechanisms for sharing best practices across HMS. This Committee receives reports from and collaborates on strategic initiatives with, the HMS Quad Diversity Committee and the Diversity Council. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee can, as required, establish ad hoc subcommittees on special interest topics and areas of strategic need.

The Committee is convened up to four times per year and staffed through the HMS Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership. The Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership co-chairs meetings of the Committee and reports recommendations to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.  A second co-chair will be elected from among the Committee and will serve for two years. Faculty, staff and administrative Committee members will serve three-year overlapping terms that may be renewed.  Students and trainees will serve two-year terms. 

Membership: The Diversity and Inclusion Committee has broad representation from faculty, staff, students, trainees, and senior administrators at HMS and HMS-Affiliates.  It strives to include individuals with a history of commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging.
