Community Engagement and Education

Overview

K-12 Programs for Students and Teachers

There are multiple points of entry into the medical profession and we try to engage the community at as many points as possible starting at an early age.
The Harvard Medical School is committed to assembling a faculty and student body that mirrors the diversity of the nation. This requires the nurturing and development of minority students who are prepared to pursue biomedical science careers.

Objectives

The objectives of the Harvard Medical School K-12 Programs are to:

  • Increase science literacy and interest in science careers of Boston middle and high school students, particularly individuals from groups underrepresented in medicine, and females.
  • Sponsor professional development activities for Boston middle and high school science teachers, thus creating a professional learning community.
  • Develop case-based curriculum materials for Boston and Cambridge schools using real life problems and hands-on activities, and have science content integrated across disciplines.

Harvard Medical School, through the direction of the Minority Faculty Development Program, has developed a number of programs with these objectives in mind.
