Diversity Awards

Harvard Medical School is committed to the advancement of a work and educational environment that adds to diversity and encourages and sets the tone for inclusion. Through inclusion, we nurture diversity of thought, diversity in education and research, and diversity in areas such as culture, race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, and disabilities. In short, we raise the bar on excellence.

Equity, Social Justice, and Advocacy Awards

The Equity, Social Justice, and Advocacy Awards recognize individuals at Harvard Medical School (HMS)/Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) and within the HMS/HSDM-affiliate community who advance equity, social justice, and advocacy - contributions that affirm the HMS mission, HMS community values, and medical professionalism. Health equity and social justice advocacy – whether directed at our patients, practices, institutions, systems, or society – are inherent in medicine’s professional ethos. The National Academy of Medicine identified “equitable” as one of the six domains of health care quality, and defined the aim of “equity” at the population level to include improving “health status… in a manner that reduces health disparities… .”

Excellence in Mentoring Awards

The Excellence in Mentoring Awards were established to recognize the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on professional development and career advancement in basic/clinical medicine, research, teaching, and administration.

Institutional Service Awards

The Awards for Exceptional Service were established to recognize and celebrate faculty and staff members whose exemplary contributions to Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine have set the standard for service through their personal initiative to provide institutional service and engage others to do the same. Exceptional institutional service is recognized with the Barbara J. McNeil Faculty Award and the Daniel D. Federman Staff Award for Exceptional Service.
